When the production of remote control cars started in the 1960s, a new world has been opened for entertainment and hobbies in the modern technological era.

Individual components such as batteries and remote controls were even developed long before the emergence of remote control toys, as new ideas and inventions emerged due to technological advancements during the Industrial Revolution. These were among the first electronic technologies created that are required to powered electronic gadgets today. Since then, RC toys joined the popular trend and changed the way children played and learned.

Looking back at the history of remote-controlled toys, it all started with an RC car with no rechargeable batteries. It had precise control and steering efficiency, but was small-scale and limited with many features. In the next few years, manufacturers found a way to integrate the concepts of electricity into RC toys, thus basically introducing the mass market to the concept of electric cars. It is highly noticeable that more innovations and developments are applied to these toys as time progresses. Today, remote-controlled toys didn’t fail to adapt to the current environment as new technological trends arise in the market.

Gigantic Motorized Beasts

With top-of-the-line RC trucks for kids available, these types of RC toys swept the world with its unique and unbelievable features. These beasts have gigantic power and performance. It can be nitro-powered or electric, depending on the choice of its owners. These can be bought as ready-to-run (RTR), though for more excitement, most advanced users prefer to build and customize on their own.

These types of RC trucks became a trend in the last few years due to their simplicity. Manufacturers initially planned to incorporate only 12 to 13 motors into the truck due to its heavy weight. However, using more than 13 motors would diminish the model’s size and complexity.

Top performing vehicles started to emerge in the United States during the 1980s, wherein manufacturers focused on one element of remote-controlled toys: speed. High-grade RC cars were built from aircraft-grade skeleton made from aluminum alloy. These were enhanced through time with features that could resist dusty and slippery surfaces while still maintaining speed. Before the year was concluded, the new RC cars manufactured had reached a speed of 40 mph. To this day, no one has beaten the world’s fastest remote-controlled car, which is the The ‘Bullet’ Car. It lives up to its name due to its bullet-fast speed that can reach up to 304 kilometers per hour.

Most mechanisms of fast remote-controlled cars are built from customized frames, tires, and bodies, and electric drivetrains are made from the rarest materials used in vehicles. With the advancements in technology today, it may only be a matter of time before a new bullet car made from new materials will break the old record.

RC Cars Infused with Artificial Intelligence

Most people grew up with slot cars, and RC cars infused with artificial intelligence have so much alike with this tech, only with more enhancements: simple slotted tracks are substituted with flat, interchangeable track sections with 40+ race layout configurations, and the guide pin on the car’s rear is replaced with a sensor that can detect color patterns, letting the vehicle be well-maintained and stay on track.

More AI remote-controlled toys are being created by various companies nowadays as the technology used for AI-integrated RC cars is inspired by deeper purposes that could help humanity with difficulties. Unlike electronic toys in the 1990s such as the Tamagochi and others like it, the new generation of AI toys today are possessed with personalities based on changing conditions. Robotic droids and drones are dominating with their new AI technology, which can be highly advantageous for children to play with.

Phone-Controlled Cars

The new generation of mobile phones released these days have a host of new features and upgrades, whether this involves a full-view display, triple camera lenses, spacious storage, or a super-slim design. That said, there’s no doubt that remote-controlled cars will be replaced by phone-controlled cars in the near future.

One example is Apple’s accelerometer technology, which was incorporated to conveniently control RC toys by using an iPod, iPad, or iPhone. The toys have built-in IR sensors sensitive to hand motions, and can be controlled by simply tilting your mobile device in different directions, which can be used to easily navigate places and surpass obstacles.

Another remote-controlled car by Apple is more impressive and more proficient than the previous one. By attaching a dongle into your Apple device, along with a special application, you can have the most fun playing with the car with its improved engines and faster wheels.

Most technologies in remote-controlled toys today have been derived from pre-existing mechanisms and devices that are integrated into their system together with some kind of smart control device. It is highly likely that companies and RC enthusiasts will create new technologies that are exclusive to remote-controlled toys, which could dominate other entertainment devices available today. Nevertheless, RC toys have never failed in setting technological trends, continuing its legacy as a toy for more than just recreation.
