People associate pickup trucks with US, but in reality they are a popular choice in a number of countries. One of such countries is Brazil, where small pickup trucks are a common sight both in streets and country roads. Now Volkswagen introduced a brand new Tarok Concept, which is a double-cab pickup truck with a flexible load-bed arrangement and SUV-like styling.
Volkswagen says that Tarok was designed from scratch, which is good news for Brazilian people. Tarok Concept was introduced at the São Paulo International Motor Show, clearly indicating that Brazil is the key market for this vehicle. Tarok was designed to be as practical as these small pickup trucks have to be, but also suitable for leisure activities. The most important example of this versatility if a variable loading area.
Tarok is around one metre long and has a double cab, which makes it loading are quite short. However, it can be extended by opening the tailgate, allowing for longer cargo. Furthermore, rear seats can be folded down as well, transforming this 5-seater into a 2-seater with a long load bed. In this configuration Tarok would fit a surfboard. However, it can carry much more as the maximum load capacity is around 1000 kg.
Volkswagen Tarok concept is a very stylish vehicle as well. It features chunky SUV-like appearance, which is combination of an urban vehicle and a capable off-roader. Tarok features thick bumper and LED lights and well as a plastic cladding, which surrounds the entire car. Tarok is painted in a two-tone design, where the roofline is black and the body is vivid blue. However, Targa-like open roof is finished with a silverfish coloured bar, which is similar to that seen on 911 Targa. Of course, despite the large sunroof, Tarok still has a roof rack for additional practicality.
Inside you would find a conventional Volkswagen interior, which is modern and simple. The most dominant feature is a colour-keyed crossbar that stretches across the entire dash panel. The design looks very clean, because it doesn’t have too many buttons – most functions controlled through the infotainment system.
Volkswagen Tarok concept is powered by a 1.4-litre 110 kW four cylinder engine, which can run on pure ethanol (E100) as well as on a gasoline-ethanol blend (E22). Engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive. Volkswagen is serious about putting Tarok into series production and says that in the future it will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel direct injection that delivers the same 110 kW of power.
Volkswagen Tarok will be sold in Brazil and the main market, but in the future it could be sold in other countries as well. It is a stylish and practical car, which should be reliable and dependable in various lifestyle activities. It can carry construction materials when you are renovating your house, but it can also house two surfboards when you just want to go to the beach.
