Independent lab results crucial in verifying the safety and authenticity of CBD products

Independent laboratory reports are always crucial when it comes to verifying the components of any products. This is particularly important for food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products that can potentially harm the consumers. Government regulatory agencies like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) are among the independent agencies that have the facilities and expertise to verify the claims of a food, cosmetic or pharmaceutical company.

A third-party laboratory research about a particular substance or product is often considered credible for its autonomy—it usually is not connected or hired by a company seeking verification. On the other hand, some company-commissioned lab reports can also be trusted if they were done by a reputable laboratory such as a prestigious university, a government science agency or a reputable private commercial research laboratory.

Having independent lab tests is especially important for the cannabidiol (CBD) industry. It is easy for companies to make claims on the labels but not all CBD products are manufactured equally. According to a report published in ArsTechnica, almost 70 percent of the online products that claim to have CBD marijuana extracts are mislabelled. Out of 84 products being sold by 31 companies online, only 31 percent have accurate CBD amount as listed on the labels. Other products also contain components that are not listed such as the psychoactive Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol acid (THC).

Some lab findings are part of a larger research that compares various products such as in the case of CBD products. Diamond CBD, for instance, has several products tested by the Research Triangle Park Laboratories, Inc. (RTP Labs). The laboratory is a reputable independent laboratory that conducts tests on various pharmaceutical/biotech products, pesticides, and food supplements. It also conducts laboratory tests on the environment. The laboratory is in compliance with the International Standards for Testing Laboratories ISO 17025.

RTP Labs tested the products of Diamond CBD, which is a subsidiary of PotNetwork Holding, Inc. (OTCMKTS:POTN), to verify if there are addictive, illicit and synthetic cannabinoid ingredients in them. Results showed that no significant psychoactive ingredients are found. For instance, the lab report for the Honey Stick product showed THC content “not detected.”

The instrument is calibrated to detect more than 0.3 percent THC content. Meanwhile, the CBD content is 0.79 mg/g. The company ensures that all product batches of extracts are subjected to lab testing to ensure safety, quality, purity, and consistency of products.

CBD Oil Review also regularly publishes a comprehensive list of brands with specific review ratings based on several criteria. The website cross-references other sources, including independent laboratory reports. These criteria have corresponding badges, namely, Quality, Safety, Charity, Mission, and Innovation.

Some of the brands with high review ratings include Receptra Naturals Review, Elixinol CBD Australia, Isodiol, Endoca CBD, Vape Bright Review, Pure Spectrum review, CW Botanicals Review, CW Botanicals Review, Diamond CBD, Bio CBD Australia and Bio CBD.

The USFDA is another source of credible information about the laboratory-tested CBD products. Consumers can verify based on the list of USFDA the companies that received warning letters because of either false claims or dangerous content in the products. Some of the companies that have been reprimanded include That’s Natural!, Stanley Brothers, Natural Alchemist, and Green Roads Health. These companies are also not approved for therapeutic benefits, mitigation, cure or diagnosis of any disease.

Consumers must be careful in buying products online and should not immediately believe the claims of these CBD brands. Those that have undergone rigorous testing and approval of government regulatory institutions are the most credible. Independent reviews and laboratory tests are also very crucial. Only a few of the wide arrays of products online have sufficient credibility.
