F-22 is a twin-engine all weather stealth jetfighter. It is a piece of state of art military technology and something United States Air Force is proud of. It is fast, extremely manoeuvrable and a really potent weapon. But question stands – what does it have to do with a pickup truck? Ford actually took this question seriously.
While F-150 Raptor already is a very interesting high-performance pickup truck, Ford decided to make it a little bit more special. And so it took inspiration from the F-22 and created a special one-off – F-22 F-150 Raptor. They are not completely unrelated as both the fighter jet and the pickup truck are known as Raptors. F-150 Raptor 450 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque, four wheel drive and chunky appearance. It is a high-performance off-roader, which looks very aggressive and can embarrass some sports cars on the road as well. However, the F-22-inspired vehicle had to be even more special.
F-22 F-150 Raptor has a whipple-intercooled, high-output 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine making 545 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque and therefore it is much faster than an already wicked standard version. Suspension got some upgrades too in a form of a bump stop kit, smoother spring rates, upgraded shock absorbers, custom forged beadlock wheels with more aggressive off-road tires, better brakes and some other bits and bobs. In essence, character of the vehicle is completely transformed, making it even more aggressive and focused, but comfort features have not been forgotten either.
There is a new audio system with 1,500 watts of amplification, power retracting steps and some other details. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the looks business with some carbon fibre parts and absolutely perfect paint finish. Usually, when you receive a brand new car, its paint finish is not going to look that great, but this time Ford made sure professional detailers had a go at this one-off truck. And to finish it off F-22 F-150 Raptor has a set of impressive LED spotlights and an all-stainless-steel cat-back exhaust system with carbon fibre tips. It looks amazing and many people around the world would like to have it, but you simply cannot – it is a one-off and it has been sold already.
Ford F-22 F-150 Raptor was made to be sold in a charity auction. It went for a respectable $300,000, which will benefit Young Eagles program, which is dedicated to inspiring children by giving them their first rides in airplanes. Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager, said: “Our long-standing commitment to Young Eagles encourages new talent to enter the world of flight, while highlighting the freedom, power, speed and agility shared by the Ford F-150 Raptor and the F-22 Raptor fighter jet”.
While this is sad, we can be sure that similar vehicles will be continued to be produced by Ford in the foreseeable future as well. On the other hand, just by looking at it, you can see that F-22 F-150 Raptor is really not that unachievable – you could mod your own F-150 to look just like that or better.
