Boom aims to build a new generation of supersonic passenger planes and has made a step forward by quadrupling its working capital. Through Series A funding involving 8VC the company has raised an additional US$33 million, giving it a total capital of US$41 million. The company plans to use modern engines and materials to develop a supersonic passenger jet that can cruise at 2,700 km/h, with prices starting at US$5,000 for a return ticket between London and New York.
The company is already working on a one-third scale prototype called the XB-1, which is scheduled to fly later this year to demonstrate the technology. This prototype will let to set a new speed record for civil aircraft. The video below shows Boom’s philosophy of supersonic flight.
