Last year Goodyear unveiled a spherical tire concept known as the Eagle 360, that is linked to the car using magnetic levitation suspension system, which would allow the vehicle to move in any direction also sideways. This year company integrated artificial- intelligence (AI), called Eagle 360 Urban, that helps to monitor road conditions and adapt its tread accordingly to a sensor-laden rubber, called “bionic skin”. New tires could form dimples in wet conditions or push them out to form a smooth tread when the roads are dry. The AI system learns tread patterns that work best in certain conditions and apply that knowledge.
It’s also can communicate with other vehicles that are running the same kind of tires. This would allow them to transmit and receive data regarding conditions on the road ahead, allowing the tread to change proactively. AI system also allow to detect when punctures occur and it can rotate itself so the the punctured section was no longer making contact with the road. Sealant would then flow out from within the tire, sealing the hole. To see it in action watch a promo video below.
