We wrote before about an amazing Lamborghini Centenario, which was produced in a very limited quantity, cost an unbelievable amount of money and was still sold out immediately. Now Lamborghini introduced a roadster version of it and it is even more amazing than the coupe. However, do not get too excited – these ones are sold already too.

Lamborghini has a long history of one-off creations. One could argue that they have no significance as only a handful of people get to enjoy them. Furthermore, usually they stay cosily covered in garages waiting to be sold to another investor. However, they allow company to test some technologies and design features that later trickle down into mass production vehicles. And for car lovers that is good enough – Lamborghini Centenario Roadster is just another poster on a boy’s bedroom wall. However, it is still as impressive to drive as it is to look at.

It is powered by the same powertrain as the coupe – a massive V12, which, with the power figure of 770 hp, is the most powerful engine built by Lamborghini. Centenario Roadster has a power to weight ratio of 2.04 kg/hp, but performance figures remain a mystery. However, they definitely are worse than the ones of the coupe, but the difference should not be massive. Car is still constructed around a carbon fibre monocoque and body, features advanced aerodynamics and rear-wheel steering.

Of course, for a car like this looks are very important. This new version keeps most of Centenario’s design cues and looks as extreme as ever. This entire series of cars has been created to commemorate a century since the birth of the brand’s founder Ferruccio Lamborghini, so creators wanted Centenario to reflect the philosophy of Lamborghini. However, the roadster does look more subtle – colour scheme is less loud and the overall shape is more elegant. Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini Chief Executive Officer, said: “This unique engineering achievement is a befitting tribute to Lamborghini’s extraordinary past and a preview of its brilliant future. Centenario Roadster embraces the cutting edge characteristics of its coupé sibling and embraces the freedom of a true open-top super sports car for a pure drive experience”.

Many car enthusiasts are now drooling over a picture of the new Centenario Roadster. However, only 20 of them were built and all of them were sold immediately, despite the price tag of 2 million euros plus tax. Now we wait to see how this design will translate to other cars from the brand.
