So called hot hatchbacks are very popular now. Care manufacturers are competing for best handling, acceleration times and affordability. Ford is not a new name in this game, as its Focus ST and Fiesta ST are rather popular and received positive reviews from automotive journalists. However, latest addition to this line-up, Ford Focus RS, is set to be one of the best hot hatchbacks ever. And now first models are already coming out of the factory in Germany.

The new 350 horsepower Ford Focus RS should be unique player in hot hatchback game, because of its AWD system, Drift mode and launch control system. This car reaches speed of 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. Image credit: media.ford.com.

In fact, Ford‘s sports cars are doing very well. In United States they are outpacing the industry‘s overall by sales and receive tons of positive feedback from owners and journalists. In a way, this makes it a perfect time for the all-new Focus RS to arrive. It is harder, faster and more extreme than Focus ST and should compete against such cars as Honda Civic Type R, Audi RS3, Mercedes-Benz AMG A45 and others that are already established on the marker. Although competition is stiff, Ford does have several tricks to attract driving enthusiasts.

Ford Focus RS was developed by a team of Ford Performance engineers in Europe and the U.S. and is manufactured in Saarlouis, Germany. It is powered by a specially engineered version of Ford’s new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, developing 350 horsepower. This allows car to reach 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

However, not only its straight-line performance is impressive. Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring should provide amazing grip for the car, which allows for better cornering around on the road or even more so, for more passionate drivers, on the track. This system should help Focus RS avoid understeer, which is common in hot hatchbacks.

The new Ford Focus RS also gets electable drive modes Normal, Sport, Track, and even the special Drift mode. The latter one allows driver to enjoy a fun of oversteer under track conditions. Drifting a powerful hot hatchback around the track is not common with cars from other manufacturers, so it could become one of the key selling points. Car also comes fitted with launch control system.

Ford is going to put even more fast cars into production this year. Focus RS will be joined by F-150 Raptor this fall. It is a more powerful and tougher version of very popular F-150 pickup truck. Then at the end of this year all-new Ford GT supercar should reach production. But at the meantime we have to wait and see if the new Ford Focus RS will be as good as promised, especially with its drifting and cornering ability.
