Solar Watch Strap

Posted November 2, 2015

Ripple is a solar watch strap for Pebble smartwatch. With Ripple you can capture the sunlight’s energy and never have to recharge your smartwatch.

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is an organic polymer material that is highly recyclable. Not only is it eco-friendly, it is also comfortable and durable. PDMS material has excellent light conductivity and light trapping features. This characteristic allows to capture and transmit light to hidden solar cells, which is a breakthrough for conventional solar modules.

Ripple can hide solar cells and store them vertically. It saves up space and is also effective. With PDMS’s high absorbance and up to 160 degrees angle collection from sunlight, the structure can make better usage of natural lighting.

The project campaign is on the Kickstarter and is looking to raise $80,000 to start mass production. Backers can get an early bird with a pledge of $64. Shipping is estimated to start in Aug of 2016.
