Navigation and entertainment is something we use a lot in our cars too and for this purpose we have a variety of technologies to help us use our devices while still safely operating the vehicle. We have special holders, connection systems, and hands-free gadgets and so on. But in these advancements we may not consider one type of vehicles – motorcycles. There are holders made specifically for them, but now BMW Motorrad presented and innovative smartphone cradle.

This cradle, meant for company‘s motorcycles and scooters is rather a simple design, but company says it offers “perfect combination of fun on two wheels and multimedia”. BMW recognized that people want to stay connected these days, even while riding a motorcycle, but it is rather hard to do, since holder has to offer comfort for the user as well as ultimate protection from vibrations, dust and moisture. This is how BMW Motorrad designed the new smartphone cradle – it is meant to protect the device, while offering the rider ultimate comfort and ergonomics.

BMW says that functions of modern smartphones can enhance the riding experience. The obvious and most necessary function is GPS navigation, but using the phone as well as enjoying the music (and many apps specifically created for motorcycle riders) are equally important. This is why BMW Motorrad designed a smartphone cradle, which can hold devices up to the size of 5 inches.

The cradle fixes to the handlebar clamps of the motorcycle of a scooter. Cradle can hold the smartphone in horizontal or upright position, whichever is more preferable for the rider and the functions it is used for. The new smartphone cradle fixes quickly and safely by using the BMW Motorrad Navigator V’s holder.

Of course, such product has to offer significant protection to our expensive smartphones. It is made from a robust plastic and the hardcase perfectly protects the device against dust and water. There is also protection from vibrations and shocks – the cradle has a special gel pad, which protects smartphone which protects the device from shocks that are inevitable when riding a bike.

This pad also ensures safe and careful installation as well as warmth draining for the smartphone while riding. The cradle is enclosed with an antireflection flex foil see-through vision panel, which offers best possible readability. BMW Motorrad also offers ability to charge the smartphone, which allows charging the phone via micro-USB. Furthermore, wireless charging is also available, in which the necessary energy transmission is done by electromagnetic induction. There is a light-emitting diode, which informs about the charging state.

The BMW Motorrad smartphone cradle is a great way to stay connected to the most important smartphone functions while riding a motorcycle. Modern cars have impressive multimedia systems and integrated GPS. They would be hard to use while riding a bike and rather quickly become obsolete. This is why smartphone integration into riding experience is a great idea and new BMW cradle seems to be a high quality product. Most likely, it will be available for purchase at the second quarter 2016.
