BLOCKS is modular smartwatch. Why buy a whole new smartwatch when you can add a new feature? As an open platform, it allows any company or individual to develop Modules. There can be Modules for gaming, sports, healthcare, the workplace, or even experimental ones for academic research.
Modules are hot swappable and easily replaceable. Swap in and out any Module in seconds:
The BLOCKS Software Development Kit (SDK) and Module Development Kit (MDK) will be made available.
The smartwatch will be compatible with both iPhones and Android smartphones. BLOCKS’ operating system is based on Android and is running on a powerful and efficient Qualcomm processor. Android OS is used, because it is an open-platform and it is easy to develop apps and implement it to a modular framework. The watch is IP67 certified, which means it can withstand immersion up to 1 m for certain periods of time.
The project campaign is on the Kickstarter and already raised $250,000 to start mass production. The early bird prices are gone, but backers can get one with a pledge of $285. Shipping is estimated to start in May of 2016.
