MovieTickets.com is the largest online movie ticketing website in the US, now enables movie-goers to buy movie tickets with bitcoin at more than 900 theaters in the US. Consumers can use the digital currency to buy tickets with the help of payment platform GoCoin to process each transaction in a way that’s similar to a credit-card purchase.
The promotion to “Dope,” an indie comedy about a high school geek, is a way that fits in with Bitcoin’s presence in the film itself. According to Alex Winter — the director of Deep Web:
“The movie itself is using Bitcoin for drugs,”
“That’s actually pretty accurate. There would have been no Bitcoin without the Silk Road. These disruptive technologies often come into the mainstream via contraband or criminality.”
MovieTickets.com CEO Joel Cohen suggested that, however, the company saw the potential in enabling the technology in more of its offerings.
Dope is scheduled to be released in the US on 19th June.
