Discharge inside short-arc mercury lamp

HBO mercury lamps are short arc lamps in which the luminous arc burns in an atmosphere of mercury vapor at high pressure.

Their main characteristics and benefits are:

· High radiance
· Multiline spectrum
· High radiant power in the UV and the visible range
· AC and/or DC operation

HBO mercury lamps are available in wattages ranging from 50 to several thousand watts. Lamps rated at less than 200 watts are predominantly used in scientific and technical applications such as:

· Fluorescence microscopy
· Fluorescence endoscopy
· Optical waveguide applications
· Schlieren photography
· Hologram projection
· UV curing

Lamps rated at 350 watts and above are used almost exclusively to manufacture electronic chips in microlithography.
