McLaren announced some time ago that they are going to split their model range into three parts: Ultimate Series comprises P1, Super Series – 650S, Asia-only 625C and new 675LT, and Sports Series are going to be entry point to McLaren. And while we have already seen cars from the upper two categories, Sports series remained somewhat of a mystery. However, now McLaren is introducing new 570S coupe to see daylight for the first time at the 2015 New York International Auto Show in April.

It is going to be cheaper, less powerful than other cars in the McLaren range, but it is also going to be a lot cheaper. However, despite more humble price tag, 570S shares its DNA with the McLaren Super Series and Ultimate Series that sit above it in the range hierarchy. It too has 3.8-litre V8 twin turbo engine and carbon fibre chassis, but big part of its components is new.

Carbon fibre chassis was newly developed to improve day-to-day usability and offer improved ingress and egress from the cabin. Chassis is incredibly strong and offers maximum protection, yet weighs only 80 kg.

Weight was one of the main concerns of the engineers who developed this car. Thanks to its lightweight structure and the use of aluminium body panels dry weight is just 1,313kg.

570S also has its own newly-developed suspension system, featuring independent adaptive dampers with front and rear anti-rollbars and dual wishbones, with the set up controlled by the familiar ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Track’ handling settings. To make sure performance is not compromised, McLaren designed body of the 570S with aerodynamics in mind.

McLaren is proud of this designed, which is recognisable and has similarities with such models as 650S and even P1, but is largely unique. Aerodynamic package includes aero blades below the front bumper giving car a purposeful stance while channelling clean, cold air through the lower leading edge of the bodywork.

570S has ultra-bright LED headlamps and such signature feature as dihedral doors with hidden opening button. Rear of the car is striking too with LED light blade rear lamps which follow the form of the sculpted panels, aluminium mesh, allowing effective heat evacuation as well as a view into the engine bay, and twin exhausts exit below the rear bumper. For now only coupe model is introduced, but spider version should follow soon. However, the most important part of every super car is its performance.

McLaren 570S has virtually the same engine as other cars company is now producing. However, it features 30 percent new components, is less powerful and more efficient. It produces 562 horse powers (570 ps, hence the name) and 600 Nm of torque. Combined with slippery, light-weight body it creates astonishing performance. The 570S accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds, while 200 km/h is reached in just 9.5 seconds with the pace not letting up till the car reaches a top speed of 328 km/h. However, McLaren says that it is the most useable car company has ever produced.

The cabin of the 570S has been designed around the driver, with a clear focus on engagement, visibility, functionality and day-to-day usability and space. It has 150 litres of storage in the front luggage bay as well as extended stowage space inside the cabin. Leather seats should provide comfortable ride in longer journeys, while leather trimmed dashboard and steering wheel provide the sensation of luxury. 570S will have all the needed equipment: Bluetooth connectivity, DAB digital radio, modern and powerful audio system, etc.  All these functions will be controlled through seven-inch IRIS touchscreen. Cabin itself looks distinctive, yet recognisably McLaren.

McLaren 570S will cost around £145,000 (about €199,000), which is 25 % cheaper than similar 650S. It is slightly more expensive than its main rivals the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Audi R8 V10 Plus, but, on paper at least, it offers better performance figures. How these rivals compare we will have to wait and see, because McLaren 570S is going to be available for public and journalists only at the 2015 New York International Auto Show next month.
