Solve for X: Adrien Treuille on collaborative science

Knowledge creation is transforming – in this video Adrien Treuille talks about collaborative science to illustrate how Internet-connected communities can become experts in the fields currently dominated by universities and big corporations.

Thousands of volunteers are outcompeting computer algorithms and cracking complex scientific questions in scientific games, such as Foldit and EteRNA. By discovering skills they never knew they had, people are joining a network of experts, which will be key in crowdsourcing complex Big Data tasks of the future and solving grand societal challenges, such as climate change.
