DigitalPersona U.are.U SDK for Android uses uniform APIs allowing for easy cross-platform development

6-11-2013 — DigitalPersona, Inc., a trusted partner for biometric identity verification solutions, today announced the availability of the DigitalPersona® U.are.U® Software Development Kit (SDK) for Android™. This DigitalPersona SDK now makes it possible to use high-performance, standards-based, FIPS 201 PIV-certified optical fingerprint readers from DigitalPersona with Android applications.

In today’s digital and mobile world, Android systems are used to access networks, conduct transactions and receive benefits. Android applications require a strong, secure form of authentication beyond the use of passwords and PINs. Fingerprint biometrics provides positive identity that secures access and prevents fraud. With the U.are.U SDK for Android, in only a few hours, developers can easily integrate fingerprint authentication into their Android applications. Because the SDK was designed to use the same API as found in the DigitalPersona U.are.U SDKs for Windows and Linux, cross-platform development is easy and efficient. The U.are.U SDK for Android includes sample code, a detailed developer’s guide and a royalty-free license to distribute the DigitalPersona runtime engine with the developer’s application.

“Our U.are.U SDK for Android gives developers the integration tools needed to use standards-based, optical fingerprint readers with their Android applications,” said Chris Trytten, director of biometrics product management at DigitalPersona. “The addition of Android to our U.are.U SDK offering provides developers with the choice of platform that best fits their needs.”

The U.are.U SDK for Android fully embraces image and template standards including ISO 19794:2005, ANSI/INCITS 381-2004, ISO/IEC 19794-2:2005 and ANSI INCITS 378-2004. In addition, the DigitalPersona FingerJetTM biometric engine features a MINEX-certified extractor offering developers the flexibility to make unfettered choices of matching algorithms and the ability to comply with a growing customer requirement for standards support.
